It offers step-by-step guidance on writing and is very useful for beginners of academic writing. One person found this helpful. Really improve the way you write, without to much hassle or arid grammar explanations.
There are a lot of examples and also bad examples - and how they should be improved. It teaches you how to use online tools in order to improve your writing, without "copy and pasting"! It's good when you have to learn and practice on your own.
The book gives you somethings to compare against or to test for your understanding of the topic. Yet, it fails to address these questions fully as part of some question are left out. And there is not much explanation or argument available for many questions.
So you have to blindly accept the answer. I ordered it by mistake - didn't see the word "commentary". Since I study and ready it for understanding, it is good book to have. Without it, I have no answer for some questions. So having the book becomes much better than nothing. I like this book very much.
I bought a used one but quality of the book was clean. It is really good for students to follow its tasks and practice writing skills. I recommend this book to other people strongly. Excellent text book. Our school is using this book as a text book. It is not difficult but very helpful. Go for it. This book is easy to read and has lots of exercises. This book is formatted for a class, but I suggest picking up a copy if you've never written a research paper, or a book review.
